Oatmeal Raisin Cookies-Week 2

Here we are at week 2, and that leaves 10 to go...10 week until Christmas!! I have a confession..until now, I have never made an oatmeal raisin cookie. I have been married 16 years and these are the hubby's all time, hands down favorite, and I have never made them! I have not been a very good wifey. :) I guess the reason for that is because I never really like them. I think it's funny how your likings change. I eat things now that I would have never touched maybe 10 years ago. It's a funny thing. :)

Although, I love a good goodie tray with all kinds of fancy things, I also think that sometimes simple is best. I think that every tray should have a simple chocolate chip cookie and now I think they need a simple oatmeal raisin cookie. These cookies are soft and chewy..sweet with a hint of cinnamon and they are just as good the next day.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
From: Quaker Oats

1/2 cup (1 stick) plus 6 tablespoons butter, softened
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups oats
1 cup raisins

Heat oven to 350°F.

In large bowl, beat butter and sugars on medium speed of electric mixer until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; mix well. Add oats and raisins; mix well.

Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to wire rack. Cool completely. Store tightly covered.

That's crazy that you've never made oatmeal raisin cookies! They're one of our favorites and I bet I'd make them once a week if I didn't have a blog to keep up with! :D

The cookies look delicious!

I'm in the never made oatmeal raisin cookies, too! I've been wanting to try them, but was always afraid I'd pick the wrong recipe. Now that you've taken the plunge, I guess I will too!

I have never tried these either but maybe I should they look fantastic! BTW I'm not sure how the linky works but no one else seems to have it either. I'd just like to know other bakers in the group so I can check out their cookies.

Oatmeal cookies are great, I just don't like raisins, and usually put chocolate chips instead.

My Mom always used to put butterscotch chips in these instead of the raisins since none of us kids could stand cooked raisins. These and chocolate chip cookies were the two cookies we made in mass quantities every Christmas.

My hubby loves oatmeal raisin cookies too. :) He can barely wait for them to cool before he eats half the pan! :) Great choice, April!

I've been married for 16 years too! And my husband still HATES oatmeal raisin - but I love them! That's a great recipe, I'll have to send over another one for you to make for him - especially now that you've discovered you like them!

I agree! I always make both basic chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies for my cookie trays.

I know I'm jumping in late but I would love to be part of the club. I did add my cookies this week either way (the Easy Chocolate Snowdrop cookies). Thanks for hosting, this is a wonderful meme and will give me lots of great new ideas for this year's cookie trays! :-)

April - Dang, you posted the best Oatmeal Raisin cookie - I have a few "go to" cookies that are not chocolate (one does have to balance the diet :-) ) and this is one. By week 12 I may run out of cookies that I really want to make! Your photos and the cookies came out beautifully!
