October Daring Baker challenge

What is this? Bostini Cream Pie, of course...not to be confused with Boston cream pie. The bottom layer is a vanilla custard, topped with an orange chiffon cake, then topped with a chocolate ganache. I loved the custard, I could eat it by itself. The cake was good, but the only mistake that I made was that I used salted butter with the chocolate, which made the whole dessert a little salty. Next time I will definitely use unsalted butter! This month was hosted my Mary at Alpineberry, you can find this recipe here.
While looking over at a fellow DBer Lis on her blog...it states that the Daring Bakers have now grown to 299 members!! WOW!! That is amazing! Go and check out all of the other's posts of this months challenge from our blogroll. They truly are a bunch of talented bakers!

They look great!! I'm glad I don't normally keep salted butter in the fridge, or I might have made the same mistake!!

Do you still have some of those Bostinis left? We do and I'm enjoying every bite, but I might not be if I have to eat the remaining 5. :)

Ah, the famous salted butter in the chocolate sauce problem! Oh well, your bostinis look great and anytime there's custard around it's hard to be too disappointed.

Marye said...

Looks good, salted butter and all.

Dolores said...

Congratulations April. Beauteous Bostini! :)

I'll just pull up a chair and eat those for you! Well done!

Lis said...

hehe I'm with you.. I could eat them all myself too. But that would be rude, right? *grin*

A lovely post, April!!

Can't wait for November's challenge. =)

I never buy salted butter, but now I am wondering how the glaze tasted with it. The reason is that I brought back from Italy a bar of dark chocolate with salt. Anyway, your bostinis look lovely.

They look delicious. Salty chocolate and all.

Salt and chocolate isn't completely unusual - chocolate covered pretzels are pretty good!

Andrea said...

I agree, the custard was delicious all by itself! Beautiful Bostinis!

Great job April! They look terrific and I can't tell that you used salted butter in the glaze at all ;) I've made that mistake in the past on other pastries... it's a "doh!" moment.

I loved the custard too! I used salted butter and seem to be the only one that didn't find it too salty... but maybe I'm just used to it.

Salted butter's a bummer, but it looks so nice and thick and yummy! And I'm with you on the custard. I could eat every component of this dessert alone and be in heaven!

Emm...I just want to reach out and grab those and eat it right now. Looks wonderful!

Your bostini's look heavenly in their chocolate sauce, even if it was a bit salted. I wouldn't say no to a desert with that much chocolate involved :)

It looks delicious! Great job.

Actually, I used salted butter but I didn't notice a salty taste... Unless it's because I like eating salty foods... Or something!

I'm always surprised when I learn something like this. It seems so unimportant and small a detail salted or unsalted and then you find out it changes everything. Your Bostini look good.

wow, this looks yummy! thanks for the comment on my mousse, if you only have powdered thats fine, its about 3 teaspoons of powdered to every 6 sheets. hope this helps :)

I made a recipe similar to this (albeit not as pretty) awhile ago except I used carob in place of chocolate.
I used carob from Holy Food Imports and I found it to be virtually as good as chocolate.
